I am happy to report that Hudson's health is continuing to improve. I received an email from his vet this afternoon:
"Both of [Hudson's] kidney test values are lower than they have ever been. He has gone from being classified as a stage IV to a stage II chronic kidney disease. His anemia has pretty much resolved -his red blood cell count is now low normal."![]()
This is probably due, in part, to the fact that I haven't been pestering him with the camera... though he has grown accustom to these belly-rubs.

A work in progress: SP-21 Part F. I began posting photographs of this painting after each sitting, with the intention of motivating myself to keep a good pace with it. Unfortunately, both premises failed. This picture should represent the sixth sitting, but it's actually the eighth or ninth. In my defense, these were rather short sittings, the differences in which would have been only slightly perceived. (And while this painting doesn't show it, I have produced a number of new paintings between now and the time this painting started.) ![]()
The effect of documenting, publishing, and commenting on each sitting has been strange and unpredicted; the experience has been somewhat intimidating.
The silver lining in all of this has been the opportunity to study and refine the composition outside of the typical timeframe (a fraction of this).
A romantic view of my very ordinary studio is what's seen in this painting. The drapery, ceiling, and to some extent the background wall are invented, while the figure and objects are faithfully recorded (albeit, fictionally uncluttered).
Apart from a few minor changes, color should be introduced in the following stages. I am embarrassed to say that this painting began in October of 2008. I plan to finish it before the end of 2009.
